About Offbeat
"I started Offbeat in 1992 after working as an engineer and session musician in various studios since I began my professional career in music at Edinburgh' s Southside Studios in 1977. At that time I worked with many punk and new wave bands like The Scars, The Valves and TV21. After a long period of just gigging my own music and writing songs and working freelance in Edinburghs Planet and Palladium studios, I formed Sonic Studios in 1987 and worked non stop as an engineer for 5 years there before deciding that my musician side was just not getting enough attention.

Offbeat was really created as a vehicle for all my musical activities, which also include writing gigging and recording my own music which I still do as much as possible. Being a songwriter myself I felt I could help other artists who needed to record their songs and music and I was proved correct as that's been a major part of Offbeat's activities over the past 17 years.
Edinburgh has a very diverse music scene and I never know what's coming in the door next. That makes it an exciting place to be for me and many challenges have presented themselves over the years and continue to do so. Artists I'm currently working with are female guitarists Allie Fox, singer Paul Lucien from Manchester, ex Bay City Roller Pat McGlynn, singer songwriter Grivas from Malawi.... and Bhangra star Ryan Singh. I just recently recorded 90 primary school kids from the Nethermains Primary school in Denny with producer Nik Paget Tomlinson, some of them wrote a song promoting healthy choices for NHS direct. I'm in the process of mixing it with songwriter Tom Houston.
Because of the Internet and technology it's now possible to work with artists from all over the World without leaving the studio and that's exciting. So no matter where you are you can get in touch to discuss your project if you think working with Offbeat will help your music".
